YSPN Mentoring Program

YSPN recognises the importance of developing relationships between and across different age-cohorts, and the power that these relationships have on both personal growth and professional development.

For this reason, YSPN has been running mentoring programs as a core priority since inception. The programs have taken various guises and iterations, ranging from a medical professional oriented program, through to a 1:1 mentoring model which paired mentors and mentees into individualised programs. As of 2019 however, after 12 months of development, YSPN is proud to announce the launch of our newest iteration of the Mentoring program.

In this new program, we combine the experiential learning and technological platform benefits of our partner Practera, a leading experiential learning platform provider; and combine this with our privileged access to professional mentors, and skilled individuals in an innovative new group-mentoring format helping our members to accelerate their development while building a network of diverse, ambitious young professionals striving for the same goals.

You can learn more about our program below, and apply here.

Why apply?

The YSPN Mentoring Program is designed to help professionals accelerate progress towards their goals and overcome challenges. Through a combination of the mentor relationship and mentee network, the program seeks to achieve outcomes that significantly improve on methods like YouTube videos, online courses, and standardised training.

Through direct access to expert mentors, the participating mentees receive tailored advice to their stage of development. While the group mentoring format also means that participants receive wide-ranging perspectives from other mentees from diverse backgrounds, who share the same goals and mindset. These factors combine to help lift our participants to achieve higher levels of success.

The YSPN Mentoring Program is an investment into your professional development and network. It will propel you towards achievement, and its key benefits include:

  • Impartial guidance  and encouragement
  • Supportive relationships with your mentor and fellow peers
  • Improvements in your self-confidence and problem solving abilities
  • Constant reflection and feedback on your practice

Below, hear what some of our participants had to say about the program.

    Luckbir Singh

Luckbir Singh is the youngest person in MacDonnells Law’s 135 year history to be appointed Partner. He is a returning mentor and firmly believes that diversity is really important in terms of one’s thinking and having influences from different people can only help you. Below are Luckbir's view on our program:

"Talking to different people…can give you a reflection which otherwise you’ll never ever be able to experience and may well set you on a course that otherwise would be undiscovered. The mentor will help you enhance who you are and become a better person."

    Manisha Pannu

Manisha Pannu is a Mergers and Acquisitions Lawyer, and Chartered Tax Advisor at the law firm, Ashurst.  Manisha was Luckbir's Mentee, and following her highly positive experience as a mentee, has this year returned as a mentor. Here are Manisha’s reflections on why she joined the program, and why you should too:

"I wanted to seek an objective third party input during a period of change. One of the best things about the YSPN Mentoring Program is that it’s brought a portfolio of mentors across a range of industries. This means that you’ll be able to seek appropriate guidance irrespective of whether the change you’re looking for is to specialise or diversify your skillset, or make a career change."

    Format and structure

This year’s mentoring program has been designed specifically to develop your skills in a candid and supportive environment. It will take a group format, over a period of two months between mid-September and mid-November, where one mentor will be matched with up with up to five mentees, meeting regularly over video conference.

    What it will look like:

    • 4 Fortnightly 1 hour meetings with your mentor and mentee cohort through a web-based platform
    • Pre & post mentor meeting reflections stimulated through questions on our learning platform Practera
    • A focus on the skill you want to develop over the course of the program, using the GROW model (Goal, Reality, Options, Way Forward)
